Christians serve a GOD of movement. The word God itself starts off with GO. Adam and Eve got stuck at the tree rather than moving with God -they started listening to the wrong voices. We too are prone to listen to the wrong voices. There are clouds of anxiety, fear, and doubts that hover over us and create lots of noise. No matter what your circumstances are, sometimes we give too much of an audience to the wrong voices - the noise. This affects our attitude.
Another way to look at the word repentance is to think of it as a change of attitude, a heart-felt change of attitude.
When we listen to the wrong voices, our fears, doubts, and frustrations can paralyze us. It affects our attitude, our ability to change course! But, who controls your attitude? You do. So how do you change your attitude? You repent. You stop the wrong voices. You move on. Sometimes it's just not that easy, is it?
Sometimes we need professional help. If you can't seem to do simple task, that's a sign you need help. I have had to, and its the best thing I ever did for myself. If however you are listening to the wrong voices, are a Christian, and you can't seem to move on, let's look at your situation differently. Ask yourself this question.
Is your life self centered, or is your life Christ centered? Get out a sheet of paper. Put a line down the middle. Head one column with the words Me - and by the way you are important. On the other column put Christ. Now write down all things that you want to do and that concern you under the ME column. Be honest. There are no wrong answers.
Now on the other side, write CHRIST at the top and write everything you think Christ wants for you. Again, there are no wrong answers.
After you finish, take a pencil and connect, drawing a line, to everything in the ME column that is also in the CHRIST column. Analyze your results. Talk to your accountability partner (spouse, best friend, relative, etc), your pastor or a church leader, or someone you respect and trust with your results. Pray. This is your life's graph. It's not an absolute but a view, your view of where you are. What is what is - is another way of saying this is your reality.
Finally read out loud the scripture below everyday several times. Claim it as God's word for you because it is. Come back every month and redo the exercise. Keep your sheets, and compare your work.
Here's a scripture I like to claim:
Do not worry because of those who are evil
or be envious of those who do wrong;
for like the grass they will soon wither,
like green plants they will soon die away.
Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land, your salvation, and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.
Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not worry when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.
Psalms 37:1-7
